There were a few weak points, but they were at the end: going after Dm for 'revenge' didn't fully make sense (would've been better if N said he was doing it to protect everyone around him or something), it would've been more logical if Niko could've chosen to refuse either of the options even if that led to JP enacting the 'revenge' ending from rage anyway, and TBH the last cutscene felt like we were missing a final chapter. Most of the story was well-written (the dialogue definitely was) and interestingly nuanced with a lot of subtle character development it's just not the sort of thing seen in most games & movies, especially not in the comic-bookish type that has dominated lately. Given the game is supposed to take place in reality, what kind of weapons could they have that you wouldn't consider 'generic'? free-aim, come up with creative solutions, or come up with ways to challenge themselves if needed given the game was written for a wide range of players, not just top-notch hardcore types. It's up to the player whether they use tactics, run-and-shoot, auto-aim vs. Not to say by far that it looks great, given its occasionally serious lighting problems.

Niko's light-colored suit looked a lot better on PS3 than Windows XB360 sometimes had subtler lighting, etc.), and in my experience can be overridden with the TV saturation/brightness/contrast/tint type settings pretty easily. Otherwise, the few minor differences weren't consistent (e.g. The Windows version could have somewhat-greater draw distances if the person's hardware could handle it. It's repeatedly stated in the dialogue that Niko is giving Roman a lot of money (it's not "munny" in GTA IV), though I do think it was a mistake that it's never shown, unlike during the Random Encounters where $$$ is deducted.Ībout the graphics: I recently looked at direct-comparison videos between the PS3, Windows, and XBox 360, and there was little-to-no difference. Kind of like a manic version of the childhood game "can't catch me!" I took frequent breaks when frustrated with failing missions by blowing things up or driving drunk with Roman so the cops would chase me, then dropping grenades out the window, shooting their tires out while driving, luring them into gas stations so I could blow the pumps up, switching vehicles as needed, and generally causing mayhem while seeing how long I could survive.

So while there's a lot of the "eliminate a few dozen thugs in a building" missions, they're only as repetitive as you decide to make them, if you see what I mean.

When it comes to the many "work your way through a building full of armed thugs to achieve something, then find some way to get out" missions, it's important to note that the game allows you to use whatever method you find most interesting - you can use tactics to eliminate one guy at a time, hide & throw grenades at them, snipe as many as possible from afar (across the street, from a nearby rooftop you climbed up or reached via helicopter, etc), run through while shooting free-aim at their heads, bring backup sent by a friend you make in Algonquin, run them over if you can get a vehicle inside or use the phone 'cheat' to conjure one up, call 911 repeatedly so a bunch of cops get into a firefight with them. Once Niko/Roman moves to Bohan, the missions start to vary a bit more and become far more difficult: robbing a bank (then escaping on freaking FOOT with FIB on your ass & running through the subway tunnels), motorcycle chases through the subway tunnels or traffic-packed areas/tunnels, boat chases, stealing helicopters, helicopter chases.there's also the trophy side-missions like racing cars, eliminating all of the Most Wanted criminals, surviving 5 minutes with a 6-star 'wanted' level, causing 10 cars to explode within a 1-minute period (haven't managed it quite yet), etc. The section of GTA IV that takes place the first safehouse in Broker is almost like an extended tutorial for playing the game.

What are the missions in San Andreas & Vice City like? I only got a little ways into VC (IIRC got an outfit & drove the hot flirty woman from the boat party to a club) before my PS2 started having serious controller-glitching errors, so I can't compare them with GTA IV.
